Blyth Town welcome Birtley Town to Gateway Park as we open up our Northeen League Division 1 campaign on home soil.

Blyth have had a positive pre-season gaining valuable minutes against full time teams as well as welcoming teams from the same level and below.

Blyth Town head into this game following a 3-1 win over Tow Law Town in our final pre-season friendly with the goals coming from Bailey Adamson, Joe Gibson and Dean Briggs.

Blyth’s revamped squad will be eager to start the season on the front foot following last seasons disappointment of last day relegation.

Although there is not much to play for on the opening weekend it is an opportunity to send a statement out to the rest of the league.

The Opposition – Birtley Town FC

Paul Fosters side visit Gateway Park for the fifth time in both clubs history, with Blyth just taking the bragging rights with a record of 3 wins compared to Birtley’s 2.

Birtley Town ended last season in a comfortable 10th place, 15 points away from the play offs, Birtley played some great football but unfortunately form and consistency was not on their side.

The visitors have gained their pre season fitness in games against Burradon & New Fordley, Annfield plain, Ryton and Crawcrook, Chester Lee Street, and Consett

Blyth Town defender Stephen Forster is widely regarded as the best defender in the Northern League and he has show his quality during pre-season, he will certainly be one to watch.

Birtley midfielder James Proctor ended the season as Birtley top scorer on 13 goals and also earned himself Supporters Player Of The Season.

Familiar faces

Liam Wotherspoon returns to Gateway Park this Saturday but this time in the away dressing room, we hope we see no shorts being pulled up as that only means one thing.🚀
